There must be some good reason as to why they’re becoming so popular, considering how many options there are, right? Since coffee pods can be pricey, trying by purchasing from a coffee pod retailer can end up costing you some unnecessary cash. Before you do that, read on to learn if Millstone Coffee Pods are likely to satisfy your needs.

What Company Produces Millstone Coffee Pods?

Millstone started out as a small company in 1981 in Everett, Washington. It’s rather ironic that the Millstone label has been applied to single serve coffee pods since the original company was built around selling whole coffee beans to grocery stores. The company was purchased in 1996 by Proctor and Gamble, though the original owner of the company kept some of the assets back in Everett, using them to start Cascade Coffee Company. In 2008, Proctor and Gamble created The Folgers Coffee Company, using both the Folgers and Millstone names. That same “independent” company merged with The J.M. Smucker Company later that year.

Millstone Coffee Pods In Your Coffee Pod Maker

Millstone coffee pods can be expected to work just fine with the majority of pod coffee makers out there. They use the Home Cafe coffee pods name, which is synonymous with “generic coffee pod”, so unless your coffee pod machine is a weirdo, they’ll fit. Many people opt for these pods when using a pod holder in their K-Cups machine, as well. Like all quality coffee pods, you’re likely to get the best cup of coffee by massaging the pod a bit to loosen the grinds from shipping, and wetting the pod before inserting.

What One Can Expect From Millstone

Although the name has been traded around quite a bit, it seems the various companies who have owned it have made an effort to keep the quality intact. Indeed, although they make no secret of owning it, The J.M. Smucker Company seems to be positioning the brand to be their gourmet coffee pods. This means that Millstone coffee pods can be expected to have a richer, fuller taste than your average brand. Reviews compare them directly to Senseo coffee pods, and all seem to prefer Millstone. Millstone produces more than 30 different varieties of coffee, including decaf coffee pods. Millstone does not currently offer ESE coffee pods, so if you’re wanting espresso from your pod coffee maker, you’ll have to look elsewhere.

Finding Millstone Coffee Pods

Millstone coffee pods can be hard to find in low population areas. Since they own the Folgers brand, which is a much better known name, The J.M. Smucker Company tends to shy away from trying to sell Millstone in areas that are less likely to purchase expensive coffees. However, Millstone coffee pods are easily obtainable through a variety of online resellers and, because of the way they are packed, coffee pods do ship exceptionally well.

While they’re not even actually coffee pods in the traditional sense, Green Mountain Coffee Pods are one of the most well known coffee pod brands out there. Actually, they are K-Cups. This means they’ll only work in a K-Cup brewer, which is made be Keurig. We won’t be talking about traditional coffee pods at all, so if that is all you’re looking for, you should look elsewhere. A Brief History Of Green Mountain Coffee

With a name like green mountain, you would think that the company was rather old and from Ireland or something. In reality, Green Mountain Coffee was founded in Vermont in 1981. This makes them very new to the coffee world, especially with older companies having been around since the mid 1800s. The company actually started as a tiny cafe in rural Waitsfield, Vermont, where they roasted and served coffee. It didn’t take long before local restaurants began clamoring to buy Green Mountain Coffee to serve in their own establishments.

How Green Mountain Differs

Green Mountain Coffees managed to grow very quickly in an extremely competitive industry. How were they able to distinguish themselves? Well, there’s a myriad of reasons they’re different, but let’s focus on flavors and selections. Green Mountain Coffees does not try to compete with the big guys whose bread and butter is traditional and decaf type offerings. They do provide a French roast, a breakfast blend, and their “Our Blend”, that all of the coffee shops in Vermont were begging for at one point, but they also have a ton of unique offerings. At the time of this writing, Green Mountain Coffees produced more than 100 different coffees under a handful of labels.

Your Pod Coffee Maker And Green Mountain Coffees

Since Green Mountain Coffee makes only Keurig K-Cups, they’re not going to fit in the standard coffee pod brewer. Green Mountain likely won’t ever make a normal coffee pod, as you would find in the Home Cafe system, so the standard coffee pod machine will probably remain out of luck. This is because, a few years ago, Green Mountain Coffees actually bought Keurig. It’s quite likely that this is the whole reason that K-Cups have been such a hit, even though they’re different from normal pod coffee makers. If you’re really bent on making it work, or if you just enjoy making your own coffee pods, you could always purchase Green Mountain’s loose coffee and do it that way.

Other Green Mountain Products

Green Mountain does have products other than coffees, although only a few actually bear the Green Mountain Coffee label. Under the Celestial Seasonings label, they offer various teas, while under the Cafe Escapes label, there are a few different types of hot chocolate. None of these offerings are available as anything other than K-Cups, however.

Just like any other pods, Melitta coffee pods are just coffee grounds with small filters wrapped around them, designed for use in coffee pod brewers. There are a lot of different companies that produce coffee pods, and Melitta is one. Melitta also differentiates their pods a bit by calling them “javapods” instead of using the traditional name of “coffee pod”.

Do Many People Use Melitta Coffee Pods?

From what I have seen, Melitta coffee pods are only second to the Senseo coffee pod. The difference between first and second place is rather large, though, as Senseo coffee pods are searched for about six times more than Melitta. Just after Melitta is Tassimo coffee pods, but those aren’t really coffee pods at all, they’re T-Discs and are exclusive to Tassimo’s brewers. Anyway, I can safely say that Melitta coffee pods definitely hold a fairly steady second place to Senseo.

Can I Use Melitta Coffee Pods In My Pod Coffee Brewer?

To that, I would say “most likely”. As a very general rule, most pods will fit in almost any pod coffee makers, although there are exceptions. Melitta actually labels theirs as “Universal”, though, so your coffee pod machine would have to be a real oddball for them not to fit. If you have ever experienced problems with a pod not wanting to fit, though, you probably want to only use whatever has worked for the pod coffee maker that you currently own. As related to the pods fitting, don’t worry about the javapods label, it’s just a marketing thing. Melitta does license their name out for a few coffee pod machines, but they don’t really make them. There is, all things considered, no real reason that a Melitta pod would work any better in a Melitta branded brewer.

Is There Any Reason Why I Should Choose Melitta Coffee Pods?

Melitta’s pods do come with a few advantages. Even though their pods will fit pretty much any coffee pod brewer, they contain more coffee in each pod than normal. This equates to a richer flavor as well as a stronger overall brew, which most people will prefer, though some might want to stay away from coffee that is stronger if they already twitch their way through the morning. Make a note of that: if you are wanting to try some new things, but also wanting to limit caffeine intake, then you will likely want to look at another brand. Another perk that Melitta coffee pods will give you is that they are wrapped separately in foil, which you would think would be the norm since the main draw of using the coffee pod is freshness, but this is not always so.

Does Melitta Make Any Other Pods?

Since coffee pod machines are, like regular coffee makers, capable of brewing things other than coffee, most makers of pods also produce things other than coffee. Melitta is no exception, as they also make a few blends of tea. Like the coffee, their tea pods should fit just fine in just about anything that is capable of brewing coffee pods.
